I Need Wisdom!
I Need Wisdom!
Purpose: Establish the hunger point — all of humanity needs wisdom to live successfully.
Big Idea: We will show you that true wisdom begins with the fear of the Lord (Proverbs 9:10).
We contrast human knowledge vs. divine wisdom (James 3:15–17).
We position wisdom as the foundation for navigating life, relationships, purpose, and calling.
Lastly, we build the bridge: To gain wisdom, you must first know the Source — God.
We all want to live well, make good choices, and leave behind a meaningful legacy.
But knowledge alone isn’t enough. Success, peace, and true fulfillment rest on something greater: wisdom.
Proverbs tells us that “wisdom is the principal thing; therefore, get wisdom” (Proverbs 4:7).
But where does wisdom begin? Scripture is clear:
“The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom” (Proverbs 9:10).
To walk wisely in life, we must recognize the Source of all wisdom — God Himself.
This is where the journey starts: admitting, “I need wisdom.”
The question is — how do we get it?
1. From Information to Knowledge
Information is raw facts: things we hear, see, or read.
Without order, information is scattered and can overwhelm us.
When gathered and retained, information becomes knowledge.
Scripture: “The heart of the discerning acquires knowledge, for the ears of the wise seek it out” (Proverbs 18:15).
Application: Surround yourself with godly information — the Word of God, teachings of wisdom, and voices that point you toward truth.
2. From Knowledge to Understanding
Knowledge alone can puff up (1 Cor. 8:1). Many people “know” Scripture but don’t understand it.
Understanding is when you grasp the meaning behind the knowledge. It’s the why and how.
Scripture: “With all your getting, get understanding” (Proverbs 4:7).
Application: Ask the Holy Spirit to open your eyes. Knowledge is the letter, but understanding is revelation.
3. From Understanding to Wisdom
Wisdom is when knowledge and understanding are applied at the right time and in the right way.
Jesus said, “Everyone who hears these words of mine and puts them into practice is like a wise man who built his house on the rock” (Matthew 7:24).
Wisdom is not theory — it is action.
Application: The wise person doesn’t just memorize verses; they live them out in real choices, relationships, and challenges.
4. The Source of Wisdom
True wisdom begins not with man, but with God.
Scripture: “The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom” (Proverbs 9:10).
Reverence for God positions us to receive His wisdom.
James 1:5: “If any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask of God, who gives generously to all without finding fault.”
Application: Wisdom is not just acquired — it’s given. And it’s given to those who fear the Lord and seek Him.
Closing Thought
Information fills your head. Knowledge builds your library. Understanding shapes your perspective. But wisdom changes your life. And wisdom begins with God. If you need wisdom, you need Him.
👉 This article sets the stage for Article (“Who’s God?”), because the natural question becomes:
If wisdom comes from God, then who is this God I need to know?
